Athletic Director, Fred Styles
Coach (RET) Fred Styles is currently a JROTC Instructor at Bethune-Bowman Middle/High School in Rowesville, SC. He is the Director of Athletics. Prior to accepting the position, he worked as Associate Head football coach and Defensive Co-Coordinator. He has also served as Head Girls Basketball Coach from 2012 to 2015. He has been working at Bethune-Bowman Middle/High School since February 2012. He also taught at Cody High School in Detroit, Michigan prior to teaching here.
He is a retired Field Artillery Army Veteran. He was employed for 22 years on active military duty. During his time in the military, he trained future Non-Commissioned Officers at the Army Leadership Schools, also known as The Primary Leadership and Development Course (PLDC). He also lectured and trained Senior Non-Commissioned Officers at the Advanced Leadership Course in Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. SFC (Ret) Styles is a born leader and received many leadership awards and accommodations while carrying out his duties, which include the Meritorious Service Medal for Leadership, and the Army Accommodation Medal, for leadership.
He is a war veteran. He was deployed to Bosnia in 1997, and served with the NATO Army during its peace keeping mission (Operation Joint Endeavor) during his first deployment. He deployed twice to Iraq (Operation Iraqi Freedom). He received an Army Commendation with Valor for his leadership in a combat zone. His other awards and decorations include; The Combat Action Badge, The NATO Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terror Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, National Defense Medal, Presidential Unit Citation Award and the Medal of Army Achievement.
On New Year’s Eve 2017, he married his best friend, Ebony Robinson-Styles. They currently have two daughters, Anastasia Denise and Ariella Zemora. He has three children from a previous marriage; Harold Jerome, Elizabeth Symone, Fredrick Albert. He is also blessed with five grandchildren; Ha’Mauri, Harmony, Albraia, Shan and Jay.
Coach Styles, graduated with Honors from Telfair County High School in McRae, Georgia. He then attended Savannah State University before enlisting in the United States Army. However, he is a graduate of American Military University where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sports and Health Science. While attending SSU, he played baseball and received numerous awards, such as Conference Freshman of the Year, and SSU Freshman of the Year (1989). He currently holds a JROTC certification and a coaching certificate. He is also a Certified Athletic Administrator. (CAA)
He is able to relate to his students in a special way and that is why he is considered a father figure to most, and a big brother to others. He thrives on being a leader, mentor, and role model and his current profession affords him that opportunity to impact lives in a positive way. His character, loyalty, and selfless service are quality traits that were developed over the years in the Army and are very apparent in his lifestyle. He has always been blessed with an ability to motivate and uplift and this value continues to this present day. He believes that winning is always the byproduct of being disciplined. Success is the result of that discipline.
SFC Styles is a huge sports fan. His favorite teams, in order of precedence, are the Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta Braves, and all things Georgia.
